AU and UN Peace Support Operations in a world of hybridity, resilience and asymmetry

Publikation: KonferencebidragPaperForskning

The African Union has from its birth in 2002 developed into an important continental conflict management tool. However, the organisation has also come to realise that the organisation is confronted with a strategic asymmetric opponent, that require another mandate and military tools that has characterised traditional UN led Peace Support Operations. For that reason the organisation is in the process of setting up robust rapid military capabilities, and have already deployed robust military contingents to the DR. Congo, Nigeria and Somalia. However, what is the consequence of the increased use of force to stop conflict, and what consequence may this have for the future mandates of UN PSO operation?
