Serbisk nationalisme på historiens vinger

Publikation: AndetUdgivelser på nettet - Net-publikationForskning

The year 2015 marked the 20-year anniversary of the end of the war in the Balkans. Serbs, Croats as well as Bosniaks have held commemorations of the atrocities in the final year of the war with of course very different heroes, which have fueled tensions. This article focuses on Serbian nationalism and how and why it developed from visions of national coexistence before the death of Tito in 1980 to the first systematic ethnic cleansing in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1992. Especially two historic situations were used extensively in the nationalistic discourse: the Battle of Kosovo in 1389 and the Second World War genocide perpetrated by the Ustasa. On this background, the article addresses especially Serbian nationalism and its use of history today.
