Despite an increasing percentage of conscripts in the Danish Army being voluntary, the percentage of conscripts continuing their training after four months has decreased the last few years. This study examines whether the worship of a unit specific culture can improve enrolment to the units own regiment. Through the use of participant observation and conducting interviews at the Danish Marine Squadron on Bornholm, widely regarded as the toughest and most popular conscription unit, it was found that the use of hard training, Marine rituals and the focus on conscripts being a part of a special communion, have an immense effect on the enrolment at said squadron. The analysis shows that some of the activities done at the Marine Squadron can be used at other units as well for the purpose of increasing enrolment. The study finally proposes five actions a platoon commander can implement at his own unit in order to improve future enrolment.
