Afgangsprojekt, Den militære diplomuddannelse (Diplomuddannelse)
The main topic for this project is leadership, and how leadership is understood and carried out in the Royal Danish Navy. The project is focusing on how to carry out the role as a leader as a newly appointed tactical lieutenant in the Royal Danish Navy. Since a lot of the first job positions that a tactical lieutenant can hold, do not have the direct leadership of any privates or sergeants, it can sometimes be challenging to understand the importance of leadership modules a cadet. Through the project there will be presented different theories and articles from well-known authors as well as published leadership material from the Danish Armed Forces. These theories will be used as the background information for the analysis and discussion about how to perform well as a new lieutenant. Along with the theory four young and newly appointed lieutenant has been interviewed, and it is their experiences from their first years in the Danish Royal Navy that will be presented in the
project. The finding of the project is that it is very important as a new lieutenant to achieve the acceptance from the rest of the crew onboard the ships and through that acceptance develop an authority as a person, and not only by the leader role that has been giving. To achieve that a new lieutenant must show his or her own personality in the way he or she leads, since the human relations on the ships are very crucial. At the same time the new lieutenants have to keep in mind to still have a professional distance between him or her and the privates on the ship, it is this balance that has been one of the biggest difficulties for the persons that have been interviewed.
