This study investigates how Battle management system as a new technology affects the Royal Danish Army’s way of commanding. The first part of the analysis examines the three factors within the theory of the inner circulation of warfare, which in this case are mission command as a leadership doctrine, battle management system as the technology and an infantry coy as the organization. The second part of the study investigates how the society affects mission command in Denmark in order to compare how countries as the USA sees battle management system as a leadership tool to either control or to manifest trust. Even-tually, it examines which effect battle management system could have on the military or-ganization.
Firstly, the study shows that leadership in Denmark is based on trust, which also is rooted in the way mission command is executed. Secondly, the study shows that battle manage-ment system is an excellent tool to support tactical operations. However, only if the sol-diers understand the use of it. Thirdly it is argued that in order to use battle management system in the most efficient way, the Danish Army needs to keep its command structure, because BMS in itself is just another tool to help, support and guide the DF to achieve the commander’s intensions.
In conclusion, mission command and battle management system can support each other to a more efficient and fast mission command, if it is done correctly by adjusting the inputs from The Royal Danish Lifeguards and if the Royal Danish Army is loyal to the way leader-ship is executed best due to the societies influence. In recommendation to the platoon commander it can be concluded that there is a need to keep up the education of sub com-manders regarding analog planning but also with the use of technology as battle manage-ment system, in order to use them to establish a positive attitude towards control within the platoon. Use BMS to do what has always been done -just faster, and share the knowledge of situation awareness.
